Where can one purchase solar/wind/hydro/biomass energy locally in the eastern US without having to trust a mail order or ebay type system? The need is 500 watts to 1500 watts. I do not want to build a power plant for the grid.

Am I correct that you are you looking to purchase alternate energy from a large provider rather than install something small and pre-made, like solar panels? Here on the west coast, companies like PGE have been so successful in their marketing of alternative energy that they are back ordered on wind turbines for the next few years. You might call your current energy provider and see if they already have an option for this. If they don't, ask them why. You might also call the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. You can find all of their info at http://www.ferc.gov/

If you are looking for personal power generation, I suggest you look for people wiling to install solar panels. These people are usually professional consultants who will talk to you personally and install ready built products. Wind, hydro (which really isn't so great, if you ask a west coaster) and biomass energy are hard to accomplish with any efficiency off the grid, unless you are an expert.

Here in the South side of Virginia, the powers to be are trying to get the public to allow Uranium mining in one of the richest veins in the country.
This is very frightning with the damages to the eccology.
I have little fundamental knowledge of solar power and I'm neeeding to learn more.
I need to find out where I can go locally to learn installation and if there are sales oppertunites avalible in my area.
We have an abundance of sun and wind avalible instead of distroying our planet.
The eccomnomy in this area is one of the worst in Va. since tabacco is on the decline. We have lots of old garmet mills avalible for production and assembily of such products.I am sure that there would be great tax insentives and reduced rents avalible on said Mills and more credits avalible for open such a manufacturing facility in this region.
To anyone in the group please contact me if you have any info that would be helpful.

I am a professional sales person and bent on working in the AE field because it is something I believe in and also can contribute greatly towards changing the way we see and act on things. With substantial experience in the construction industry and industrial sales I have made some very nice impact on power facilities and the phosphate industry. I wish to include myself with the AE in Florida and welcome advice on how to present myself. Of course we do not find great need for marketing people other than investors. Is there a market for a professional sales person? The passion and ability to perform are both present.

David I also live in the Southside,I whole heartly agree with you.
The Danville area needs to court these companies that do manufactoring. I'm sure that the government has incentive programs as well as the local government. I would recommend that we try to get dirrection from our local government on who to talk to. There are people drawing pay checks that are supposed to be courting companies to come here.
I'll see what I can do,time permitting to pursue this too.Lets see if we can turn this messs around.
