AlternativeEnergy.com

I am very excited that I have the opportunity to launch AlternativeEnergy.com. It is going to be a challenge to live up to the name ... but that is the goal. There are so many reasons to be interested in this subject (see blog).

This is the first time in my career that I have been able to work on something that can really make a positive difference in the world. Till now, I have worked on technology and entertainment businesses. In the background, I have been an avid news/politics junkie for more than 30 years -- since my eight grade mock UN.

I look forward to communicating with the community and finding great content to post. Please send your ideas and content to info at alternativeenergy.com.

All the best,
Doug Schiller

Why are you interested in Alternative Energy?
We all want our kids to have a better world than we have had yet we are all scared it will be much worse.

Many remember the gas lines in 1979 and learning about depleting energy resources in high school. Now, things may be even worse. We're really at war. The West's dependence on oil from somewhat / potentially hostile countries is more real than ever. The West is unintentionally funding potential adversaries bent on our own destruction.

On the good side, our Alternative Energy technology is becoming much more economically viable. This website is dedicated to documenting and tracking this progress.

We now have a situation that China is using so much coal that pollution there is deadly. The NY Times reported that some of the pollution actually reaches California. We have a global economy and a global environment.

And now there is the fear of global warming.

The only solution is tremendous awareness that will encourage EVERYONE to take major steps in the right direction. Government, business, and individuals have to dig in and get serious. Hopefully some magical solution will be found, but in the meantime, we need to fight this on all fronts ... solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, biofuels, and boosting conservation and increasing efficiency.

My island Dominica, is called the nature island of the caribbean. Like the world over we are suffering from the high oil prices. We have vast reserves of Geothermal energy and are trying to tap them to help reduce our energy costs. But the general public is concerned that one of the few natural resources we have will be controlled by foreigh investors. What do you think?

“Can the energy crises be overcome?” – I say yes!

I think that the public, the government and corporate America should treat these energy crises as a danger to our way of life.

During World War II, the America we know unified in a common cause. Everyone rolled their sleeves to chip in and Americans produced an enormous amount of hardware for the war effort. “I see a solution within 36 months”.

If we as a nation can really appreciate and understand the severity and enormity of the energy crises, the catastrophic impact on our economic stability and civilization,
we must unite and do whatever is necessary to produce other forms of energy and overcome this energy and economic crises “by putting all politics and egos aside and look for the good of our nation”.
